Name: Philip von Mayer. Age: Fifteen. Birthday: February 28. Alignment: Neutral. City of Residence: Berlin, Germany. Zodiac: Pisces. Languages: German and English. Religion: Catholic. Family: Johannes von Mayer (father, deceased), Helga von Mayer (mother, deceased), Friedrich von Mayer (brother, living). |
Philip has weak telekinetic abilities. They increase in strength when he is around his twin, but not to such an extent that he'd be able to do anything particularly destructive or amazing with them. At most, he'd be able to move small objects for short distances and a brief amount of time – anything too large and the object would refuse to budge, not to mention that attempts to move it in spite of that would result in rapid exhaustion. |
Philip and his twin brother Friedrich were born to Johannes and Helga von Mayer on February 28th, 1984, in West Berlin. Their parents had met in university and decided to start living together in an apartment in Zehlendorf, without getting married. This was met with some disapproval from their families, but in spite of that, the von Mayers had relatively few problems as a family and provided a stable environment for their children. However, as both Johannes and Helga were focused on their own careers, even though their children were an important addition in their lives, they couldn't always be there for them all the time. From a young age, Philip was rarely seen anywhere that wasn't around Friedrich. The brothers did have normal sibling arguments at times; there were moments when they really didn't seem to get along – or Friedrich had one of his outbursts – but they were very close nonetheless. Although it was probably more instinct than any conscious decision, Philip tried to look after his twin whenever he could, beginning to feel increasingly protective of him, when he realized that other kids at school were picking on Friedrich. Unfortunately there wasn't much Philip could do to help and he thought that Friedrich probably wouldn't like someone stepping in to defend him. One day, things took a turn for the worse. Philip and Friedrich were on their way home from school, when a group of bullies followed them. They were outnumbered, so opting for something non-confrontational seemed like the best move and Philip decided to cross the road to get away – but before Friedrich could do the same or Philip realized what was going on, one of the other boys grabbed Friedrich. There was no time to react. A moment later, the bully went flying into the path of a passing car on the street, as if flung by some mysterious invisible force. At the time, Philip had no idea what had happened or that Friedrich (as well as himself, indirectly) had been the source of that "mysterious invisible force". Some time later, however, he began to discover his own abilities and put two and two together, although he didn't bring it up to Friedrich, hoping that his brother wasn't blaming himself for what had happened that day. The consequences of the incident seemed to linger for a long time afterwards. Philip could see that his brother was seriously affected by what had happened and he knew that it couldn't have been just an ordinary accident. From then on, Philip was determined to do a better job protecting his brother to make sure nothing bad could happen again. He tried to become someone steady for Friedrich to trust, someone who could pull Friedrich back from anything that might get too out of hand. Luckily, things seemed to change for the better after elementary school. Philip and Friedrich were enrolled at the John F. Kennedy school to continue their education there. While this meant that Friedrich was making more friends now, Philip was secretly relieved that it didn't mean that he and his brother would grow apart. They were considerably different people in some ways, but they managed to remain in the same circle of friends. The year 1999 brought along more changes. This time, however, they weren't good. Friedrich suddenly vanished – his family had no idea where he'd gone, not even Philip. They had no leads and searching anywhere possible within the country produced no successful results. The distraught family had to prepare themselves to face the possibility of never seeing Friedrich again. Philip didn't want to accept that. Even if everyone else gave up on finding Friedrich, he would keep going. Another blow followed – the murder of his parents. If anyone knew any details, they didn't seem to be willing to let Philip know. He soon found himself being taken in by relatives, giving him a chance to keep attending school as normal, as if nothing had happened. Part of him wondered if he was lucky to be alive and if that was just a coincidence - he wasn't supposed to be home at all for a couple of days around then. Several months have passed since that day, but Philip is still determined to find out why his parents had to die and why his brother has seemingly vanished. |
Philip could be considered the complete opposite of his brother when it comes to personality, but it isn't quite as clear-cut as that. He is more even-tempered than Friedrich and seems to fit the role of the 'mature' one out of the two. While he isn't always friendly towards everyone or calm and reasonable all the time, he tries to be those as much as possible, even if it means forcing himself to do so. Perhaps it's not actually a conscious decision, but Philip feels obligated to do it for his twin's sake – he is rather protective of Friedrich and feels like he has to be a steady constant in his brother’s life and pull him back when it might be needed, since Friedrich tends to be so erratic. Philip makes an effort to be patient, although that can prove difficult at times when his brother tries to push even him away in his moments of suspicion towards others. While he might gently admonish or tease Friedrich, he hasn't lost his temper with him in a long time. Although he doesn't seem very outgoing and his place in Friedrich's clique is probably not as clearly defined as Friedrich's, Philip isn't actually shy or quiet. He's friendly enough to everyone he meets, but he doesn't try to get any closer than casual friendship. If he happens to make friends, then that's fine, and if not, that's also okay. Most of his attention is usually focused on his brother. That may be a little unhealthy, but so far, it hasn't caused any real problems. He isn't openly affectionate towards his family members, excluding Friedrich, at least not to any notable extent, but he does care about them – especially Friedrich, needless to say. If someone were to hurt them, Philip isn't sure how he would deal with that. The thought is upsetting and bothers him. Repressing all these things could be the wrong way to respond to everything, though. If enough were to build up and then one more thing came along to act as the final straw, all the self-restraint Philip is trying to school himself into keeping in place probably wouldn't help. Luckily (or maybe not), all he really cares about is the well being of those closest to him. More recently, now that he and Friedrich have been separated for some time after their parents' death and Philip has no idea where exactly Friedrich ended up, Philip has been switching on and off between trying to make himself appear more like his twin at times, carrying himself the way Friedrich would instead or taking on some traits that were usually seen in Friedrich more often than in himself, until he reminds himself to keep up being the Philip he's tried to be all this time, for the day when he and his brother might be reunited. Although losing his parents (and possibly even his twin brother now) affected him badly and being unaware of what exactly took place and why (not to mention who was to blame) has left Philip with a great deal of frustration at his inability to protect his family, on the surface he's managed to keep himself together. On the other hand, sometimes he can slip up. He's also become more reluctant to deal with other people for too long and interaction with them can seem forced. As he enjoys taking pictures in his free time, even if they're not amazing photography or anything like that, he has a couple of photos of his immediate family still in his room with him and sometimes he talks to them when no one is around. The community wouldn't faze him too much at this stage, although he'd find it strange, as long as it doesn't interfere with his life or affect him and his brother directly. |
As Philip and his brother are identical twins, telling them apart would be close to impossible, if it weren't for the fact that Philip tends to dress differently as well as carry himself in a manner that distinguishes him from Friedrich. The people who have known them long enough would be able to notice these differences – Philip smiles easily and frequently and comes across as more mellow than his brother. He lacks the seeming aggressiveness or 'troublemaker' aura his twin gives off, as his clothes look tidier and less ill fitting in comparison to Friedrich's. (They are usually all fairly casual nonetheless.) Instead of being something that comes completely naturally, however, this is a conscious effort on Philip's part – after all, he's expected to play the role of the mature one of the two. He keeps his pants and shirts ironed and his shoes clean to help with that, not because it's actually something he places importance on. Like his brother, Philip has the same thin, lanky build and he is of slightly taller than average height, although his facial features make him look a little younger than his age. His posture tends to be relaxed without turning into slouching; he rarely appears tense. But this, too, isn't one hundred percent natural. Rather, Philip has gotten used to convincing himself to remain easygoing as much as possible. Something that might look a little unusual about his appearance, at least in contrast to the rest of it, is his hair. It's an ordinary shade of black, but he wears it just past his shoulders in the back and ties that part up in a small ponytail. It doesn't look too attention grabbing or wild, though, nor is it a fashion statement. Philip simply lets his hair stay exactly like Friedrich's as if to keep him company when it comes to that.
